Alternatives for Australian householdsThree reasons people leave, and a different answer for each.

PocketSmith is a good product, the best tool in this market for seeing your money years ahead. People still leave it, and almost always for one of three specific reasons. Which one applies decides what you should move to.

We build one of the tools on this page. That is exactly why the verdict below names a competitor first when a competitor is the better answer: two of the three answers below are not us.

The short answer

Pick by what you actually want

If you left because of the price

Frollo

PocketSmith's free tier is manual entry only, so the paid plan from $14.95 a month is really the product. Frollo is free with no paid tier at all and pulls in transactions from more than 100 Australian banks through .

If you left because it is a web product

WeMoney or Up

PocketSmith is mainly a website with a companion app rather than a full phone app. WeMoney is built for phones, with a free tier and a free Equifax credit score. Up is built for phones too, but it is a bank, so you have to move your banking to it.

If you left because it knows nothing about Australia

Funance

PocketSmith was built in New Zealand for a global audience. It handles Australian bank accounts fine and Australian tax rules not at all. If you kept wishing it knew about , super or , that is the specific gap Funance was built to fill.

Be honest about which problem you have

PocketSmith does one thing better than anything else available here: it shows your cash flow up to thirty years ahead, handles multiple currencies, lets you budget by calendar date and build your own dashboards. It has been going since 2008 and it is self-funded. Nothing on this page beats it at that.

So if long-range forecasting is what you want and it is working, do not move. The three reasons below are the ones that actually send people looking, and each has a different answer.

Reason one: the free tier is not really a tier

PocketSmith's free plan is manual entry only. If you wanted automatic tracking without paying, you were always going to end up on a paid plan starting at $14.95 a month.

Frollo is the direct answer to that. Australian, free, no paid tier waiting, and connected to more than 100 Australian banks and lenders through . Its Financial Passport, a downloadable twelve-month summary of your income, spending, what you own and what you owe, is genuinely useful if you are about to talk to a mortgage broker.

Reason two: you wanted it on your phone

PocketSmith is a website with a companion mobile app, not a full phone app. If you want to do everything from your phone it will frustrate you, and no amount of features fixes that.

WeMoney is built for phones, with a free tier, a $9.99 Pro plan, and a free Equifax credit score, which is what most people open it for. Up is the other phone-first option and it is better than any add-on app at what it does (Savers, Pay Day, and 2Up for couples), but Up is a bank, so using it means moving your banking there.

Reason three: it does not know what HECS is

This is the one people take longest to name. PocketSmith was built in New Zealand for a global audience. Australian bank accounts connect fine. Australian rules are simply not in the product.

So a thirty-year cash flow projection cannot tell you whether is worth it on your income, how much your balance will grow this year, how much changes between Victoria and Queensland on the same house, or what the bill looks like if you sell an investment property this financial year instead of next.

Funance takes the opposite trade: no bank feeds at all, and the Australian rules done properly instead. The super projection, home equity and net worth calculators on this site all run without an account, so you can see the difference before deciding anything.

Questions

The things everyone asks

Is there a free alternative to PocketSmith in Australia?
Frollo. It is Australian, free with no paid tier, and connects to more than 100 Australian banks and lenders through . WeMoney also has a free tier, with a Pro plan at $9.99 a month.
Does PocketSmith handle Australian tax?
No. It was built in New Zealand for a global audience, so it has no ATO tax brackets, no thresholds and no state . Australian bank connections themselves work well.
What has the best forecasting if I leave PocketSmith?
Honestly, nothing here matches PocketSmith's thirty-year cash flow projections. If that specific feature is why you use it, staying is the sensible answer. The alternatives on this page win on price, on phones, or on Australian rules, not on how far ahead they look.
Is PocketSmith still being developed?
Yes. It has been running since 2008 and is self-funded rather than venture-backed, which is part of why it has outlasted a lot of apps that launched after it.

Forecasting is not the same
as knowing what to do.

If the wall you keep hitting is that none of them know what , super contribution limits or Victorian are, that is the entire reason this one exists. Sample data loaded, no signup.
